Environmental Commissioner to hold open news conference in Cobourg

January, 29, 2007

Northumberland – Gordon Miller, Ontario’s Environmental Commissioner, will hold an open news conference in Cobourg on February 1st, 2007.  The news conference, which is also open to members of the public, will be held at the Human Bean Coffee House, 80 King Street, West from approximately 2:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M..  Members of the media are invited to attend, and are also invited to accompany Mr. Miller to the Laurie Lawson Outdoor Education Centre where he will tour the first major acquisition of the Northumberland Land Trust and address a gathering of teachers from the KPRDSB on matters of environmental interest.  Mr. Miller also is set to be the key note speaker at the Annual Northumberland Land Trust (NLT) Gala Dinner to be held that evening at the Northumberland Heights Restaurant, 795 Northumberland Heights Road, Cobourg.

“We would encourage members of the media and the public who have an interest in environmental matters to take this opportunity to speak directly with Ontario’s Environmental Commissioner,” says Dr. Doug Galt, chair of the NLT.  “He is responsible for monitoring and reporting on the government’s compliance with provisions of the provincial Environmental Bill of Rights and, as such, has many interesting perspectives.”

The Northumberland Land Trust is dedicated to preserving environmentally-sensitive and historically-significant lands in Northumberland County.  For further information about the news conference and the day’s events, please contact NLT Communications Coordinator, Al Hoffman at (905) 373-4400.
