McEwen Property

Hope Township

Lot 3, Concession 10.

In April 2008, Nature Conservancy of Canada transferred to the NLT the 100 acre McEwen Property on the Oak Ridges Moraine, in Hope Township. Rob McEwen and his sister Catherine McEwen, the donors of the property, attended a celebration which was held outdoors, in April. The snow was barely off the ground but the sun shone!

This property is a tract of rolling wooded kame forest and open fields, directly adjacent to the Ganaraska Forest. The property contains a drumlin, a beautiful pond, wetlands, a creek, forests, and retired farmland. Seventy-six bird species were recorded, 22 of which were breeding on the property. We look forward to having birders visit the property in the New Year.
